A new multi-family afforable housing typology is proposed for mid-town Charlotte in accordance with increased awareness and exposure of lack of affordable housing and local gentrification in the Charlotte neighborhood. The concept was derived from utilizing the site as a field condition study of both the neighborhood, natural site elements, and demographics of the gentrifying area. The completed proposal suggested a new concept of low-rise connected courtyards to allow each unit an individual view, layout, and experience. Units remain standardized for ease of cost, construction, and standardization of rent. A mix of one bedroom, two bedroom, three bedroom, and free-standing townhomes are located within the site.
Future street-side commercial allows for potential additions such as childcare, grocery stores, healthcare ect.
