The “Wave Chair” is an original concept for a casual seating piece.
The idea is generated using flat strips of variable material choices including plastic, nylon, or leather, and wrapped in one continuous motion to form the seat and back of the chair. On the back side these pieces are twisted a full 180 degrees at variable intervals to reveal a wave pattern on the back of the chair.
With a basic construction method, cost and ease of assembly are at the forefront of the design while the varying cording materials and wood choices can allow for greater customization at a manufacturing or consumer level.
Two base sheets of plywood are CNC milled as one form and then joinery holes are cut to attach wooden elements for the creation of the base of the chair. The low back shape appears to float about the seat of the chair. The nylon cording is fastened at the backrest and ran continuously along the form of the chair base before being fastened on the underside of the chair seat. Varying sized metal plates are secured along the back side of the cording strips to allow the formation of the twists to create the wave shape.
